We’re delighted to announce that we have achieved a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted in a report published today, Wednesday 7th March 2018. Inspectors visited our specialist college in February, the first inspection since it was officially opened in September 2015.
As well as an overall ‘good’ rating, Ofsted also rated all key areas at the college as ‘good’. These are:
- Effectiveness of leadership and management
- Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
- Personal development, behaviour and welfare
- Outcomes for pupils
The report says: “Good teaching and learning are enabling all pupils, including the most able pupils, disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, to make, at least, good progress from their starting points.”
Our partnerships with leading local, regional, national and multi-national engineering companies, including British Steel, Cristal, Phillips 66, Refinery, and Jacobs, were also highlighted in the report.
“Pupils and students have a strong commitment to learning and demonstrate strong work-related skills and attitudes,” it says.
“The University Technical College is supported and challenged by knowledgeable, effective governors and enthusiastic business partners.
“Behaviour in lessons and around the site is good and pupils take pride in their business-like uniform.”
Inspectors were impressed with the way staff and pupils work together too. “The relationships between staff, pupils and students in the 16 – 19 provision are very positive and promote a culture of respect,” says the report.
The report also highlighted the positive impact principal Marc Doyle has had on Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire since he joined in June last year. It says: “His vision, enthusiasm and passion are crucial to the continuous development of the college.”
Mr Doyle welcomed the report. He said: “It’s fantastic that Ofsted has recognised the high-quality academic and technical training we are delivering for 14 to 19-year-olds.
“We are a modern college that is helping students get into today’s technology driven professions in the area. Achieving this ‘good’ rating shows the young innovators of the future that they will be learning the skills they need from us.
“It also demonstrates to our employer partners that our students are being trained to the standards they need to go on and flourish in exciting and cutting-edge careers with them.”
