Tapping into every students potential and igniting ideas around future career pathways, provides challenges to solve the kind of problems faced by engineering and health industries every single day.
The intention is that a significant element of our curriculum, which sets us apart from traditional education, focuses on providing a technical, practical and hands-on experience alongside the core academic subjects. Providing high-quality opportunities and helping to narrow the skills gap in STEM industries.
We also provide students with the unique opportunity to undertake employer led projects. These strengthen our links with local industry and ensure a diverse and broad experience for all our students to prepare them for their future careers.
Throughout Years 9, 10 and 11 the Manufacturing curriculum looks in depth at all aspects of the manufacturing process, from concept and design, health and safety planning, material selection, through to planning production and quality measures.
Throughout Year 9, projects include the Drill Drift project with HETA, Christmas Tree design with British Steel, Thread Gauge with Tronox, and designing a phone stand with KCOM.
In Year 10, knowledge is consolidated while different processes and skills are considered when manufacturing in quantity or as a one off. Advanced turning and milling skills are taught and practised.
In Year 11, different processes, principles and skills are revised and consolidated upon ahead of the examination period.

Throughout Years 9, 10 and 11 different aspects of the design process are explored, from identifying a problem, to creating a design to resolve the problem, creating sketches, drawings and model making, leading into production planning.
In Year 9 employer led projects, such as a Sustainability Challenge with Phillips 66, a Renewable Energy Challenge with Knauf and a design task with Care Plus. Skills such as identifying problems, problem solving, design, sketching techniques and model-making alongside presentation skills. CAD skills will be advanced and coursework will be introduced.
In Year 10 and Year 11 the design, evaluation and modelling stage is consolidated and progressed to a higher level. Principles of engineering design are explored, while the concept of communicating designs through visualisation is enhanced.
