I am now in Year 10. I came to the UTC as I wanted a fresh start and wanted an education that would lead to the qualifications for the job I want in the future. At the moment I want to work in Health and Safety in Engineering. This may change, and I know I can change and go into many different engineering roles. My ideal company would be Phillips 66. I took part in a mentoring programme for encouraging females into engineering with them, and they inspired me to work there or at a similar company. It was a great opportunity. The highlight of Year 9 has been meeting companies and getting a better understanding of the different types of engineering and roles within them. I was also part of a team that won the Waterline Summit Decarbonisation competition. I learned so much about renewable energies, sustainability and what the future could look like. As part of this, I was invited to be on a panel talking to businesses and politicians from across the UK at the Great Northern Conference. My first year at the UTC has been a whirlwind. You get out what you put in.

I would tell new Year 9s to take every opportunity you get and accept what is offered to you. I have and it has been amazing.
